Overview

Signet Health, a national behavioral health management company, is currently recruiting for a full-time seasoned Nurse Program Director to manage the Geriatric psychiatric inpatient services for a 20-bed program at U of L Health, Peace Behavioral Health Hospital in Louisville, KY.   

The Nursing Program Director reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and/or executive leader delegate. Responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating nursing care and patient outcomes. Responsible for resource management, policy and program development, and fiscal management. Some may be responsible for 24/7 operations of a particular department/unit.

This is a highly visible position with strategic responsibility, working collaboratively with Signet Health and hospital leadership creating a respected and cohesive program to serve the community. This person is recognized as a professional role model and promotes an environment that supports the goals, mission, vision, philosophy, and values of the behavioral health unit and the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Designs, directs, and oversees nursing practice for delivery of services to patients and families.
  • Directs personnel actions related to areas of responsibility including, but not limited to hiring, performance management, staff development, disciplinary action, etc. Oversees recruitment and performance management for nursing leaders within scope of responsibility. Directs development and implementation of quality and utilization standards across the continuum of care to ensure coordinated plans of treatment, patient focused delivery of services and cost-effective utilization of necessary services. 
  • Formulates and implements hospital and departmental goals for assigned areas. Integrates goals with overall hospital strategies, operations, objectives and plans.
  • Serves as resource in area of geropsychiatric expertise within the facility. Maintains effective working relationships, communication, and collaborative decision making with members of the medical staff, other departments, leadership staff, employees, community, and others.
  • Provides leadership and effective interdisciplinary personnel management by maintaining and evaluating employee performance and attendance and providing opportunities for staff development.
  • Contributes to the financial viability of the organization including managing productivity and budgeting process (from nurse supervisor description)
  • Develops base staffing patterns for each area and ensures availability of sufficiently qualified nursing staff to meet patient care needs while maintaining productivity.
  • Responsible for delivery of quality care and ongoing quality improvement efforts. Assists with quality management hospital wide.  Monitors patient outcomes and develops corrective action as needed.
  • Supervises employees to ensure quality work.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely delivery of various reports including staff schedules, payroll, labor productivity, audits, incident reports and others as assigned. (from nurse supervisor description)
  • Utilizes clinical/quality metrics to implement clinical changes & the delivery of patient care.(from Signet Nurse manager). Develops and supports a shared governance structure. Assures staff participation in department and organizational nursing structures.
  • Partners with Finance with preparation of annual budgets; evaluates budget variances regularly. Ensures that supply inventories are adequately maintained to provide quality and continuity of care.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains a spirit of inquiry utilizing nursing evidenced-based practice findings and research methodologies to improve the care delivered.
  • Maintains an active leadership role in support of UMC/BCC nursing, committees, and program development.
  • Current knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Ensures ancillary departments support the unit’s overall objectives and patient care.
  • Leads the organization in maintaining and achieving licensure, regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Participates in community activities on behalf of the hospital. Assists in community health events and education as needed.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct as well as regulatory visit readiness.
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years of experience as an RN (required)
  • Five (5) years of inpatient psychiatric leadership experience (required)
  • BSN (required)
  • Master’s in Nursing, or Health/Business Administration (preferred)
